Q: What makes the European Design Awards special to you?
A: The European Design Awards stand out to me for several reasons. For one thing, the jury’s composition reflects a broad spectrum of the design industry, bringing together seasoned practitioners, educators, researchers, publishers, and curators. This diversity ensures that design work is evaluated through a comprehensive and nuanced lens. Additionally, the award draws a remarkable variety of submissions from across Europe, highlighting the rich and multifaceted nature of European design. This vibrant array of traditions and approaches is a testament to the continent’s creative diversity — something I find deeply worth celebrating.

Q: What excites you most about European design today?
A: I am particularly inspired by designers who take creative risks — those who remain dedicated to the art of communication while demonstrating the curiosity and courage to challenge conventions and drive innovation forward. I also hold great admiration for work that stands out through exceptional craftsmanship. It’s exciting to witness a growing presence of both adventurous and craft-driven design across Europe.

Q: Is there a particular trend or approach in design that you think represents the future of creativity in Europe?
A: Designers consistently find ways to carve out new creative paths, even when the market is hesitant to embrace new ideas. This perseverance, combined with a designer’s ability to craft meaningful and compelling narratives, will continue to drive the evolution of design in Europe.

Q: What advice would you give to designers aspiring to stand out in a competition like the European Design Awards?
A: There is no singular formula for success, which is what makes design so exciting. My advice would be to stay true to your own voice and continue to create in a way that feels authentic to you. Innovation often lies in individuality.
