Grafikmagazin 05.24: “Haptics & Print”

The new issue of Grafikmagazin 05.24 focuses on the interplay between haptics and print. At a time when digital communication dominates, it is becoming increasingly apparent that the success of brands, products and content often lies in incorporating haptic aspects into communication strategies. What you feel is remembered longer and triggers stronger emotional reactions. In the focus topic “Haptics & Print”, we present outstanding design solutions that illustrate the potential of the print medium in all its facets.
We are particularly proud of the elaborate design of the current issue. Four different papers were used in the inner section, enhancing the print experience on every page. The highlight, however, is the impressive cover, designed by Denis Widmann, which was finished with five different colors of joly design paper as well as embossing stamps and hot foil stamping by Butz & Bürker.

Designing for accessibility
In addition to the main topic, we take a look at the Accessibility Reinforcement Act, which will change the accessibility standards for websites and other means of communication from 2025. On eight pages, we explain what this means for designers and how these new regulations can be used as an opportunity for improvement – for everyone. The “Brave New Alps” project is also dedicated to improvement. Here, designers are working together with local stakeholders to strengthen the community, protect nature and develop alternative sources of income.

Hollywood-ready images
In our photo series, we present a large-format illustrated book about the glamorous world of Hollywood as it was once staged in LIFE magazine. We show that print can achieve impressive communication feats today more than ever – especially in a predominantly digital world. On 20 pages, we present projects that use print in a wide variety of ways to create unique experience.

These creative minds show the way
In this issue’s showroom, we focus on two renowned design competitions: We present the prize-winning works of the European Design Awards and the ADC Talent Awards’ projects for young talent that are well worth seeing. The issue is rounded off with illustrations by Johanna Ploch, whose humorous line captures everyday scenes in a charming way.
