Dd Yearbook ’24-’25, (Off) Balance: Out now!
December 9, 2024
BNO, Dutch Design, Dutch Designers Yearbook, EDAwards Partners
The Association of Dutch Designers (BNO) launched the fifth edition of the acclaimed Dutch Designers Yearbook, this time exploring the theme (Off) Balance. This hardcover publication offers the definitive overview of a year in Dutch design, highlighting the latest developments in the field.
Discover which emerging talents are shaping the future, who won coveted design awards and how designers are finding inspiration and balance in a time marked by disruption.
Dd Yearbook ’24-’25 captures the pulse of a world where contrasts dominate the discourse. Democracy versus autocracy, sustainability versus consumption, tech-made versus human-made, tradition versus innovation—the question is no longer whether imbalance defines our time, but whether we are ready and able to restore equilibrium. Will the design sector stick to the status quo, or will designers dare to explore new forms of functionality and meaning?
This edition not only reflects on a transformative year for design but also delves into the role of design in shaping tomorrow’s society. Contributions from leading journalists, scientists, and designers provide thought-provoking perspectives. Neuroscientist Lara Wierenga examines the creative brain, while a special podcast edition of Designers Inc. features zeitgeist analyst Christine Boland. Journalist Jeroen Junte presents ten design year highlights and design curator Yassine Salihine provides an in-depth interview. Journalist Viveka van de Vliet interviews experts on the value and challenges of design awards, offering further insights into the sector’s complexities.
The publication also presents promising graduation projects from Dutch design academies, ranging from practical solutions to pressing issues to conceptual creations that challenge conventions. Award-winning works by prominent names such as Noon Passama, BCXSY, Joost Grootens, Hedy Tjin, Lidewij Edelkoort, Patta, Mohamed Benchellal, Marit Törnqvist, TBWA\NEBOKO and Typotheque are featured, showcasing the diversity and innovation in contemporary Dutch design.
