Athens Epidaurus Festival by Beetroot
November 22, 2024
The visual identity of the Athens Epidaurus Festival – Greece’s leading cultural organization, and one of the oldest continuously running festivals in Europe – is adapted every year to reflect the organizing themes of the artistic program. For 2024, togetherness constituted a central thematic axis. A unifying concept that mediates differences at the national, political, cultural, and geographic level and brings people closer. The joy of being together and sharing, as part of a cohesive whole.
Rooted in the idea of connection, the visual identity created by Beetroot for the 2024 Athens Epidaurus Festival highlights the concept of togetherness in the act of experiencing the arts. Through the eyes of the viewers, we see elements intrinsically linked to the festival and the Greek summer: the rays of the sun, the waves of the sea, pine needles, the amphitheater’s tiers, the sound that carries. The “handmade” feel of the design implies the human element, while the custom font adds character and depth. Through creative abstraction, hand-designed dedicated patterns and textures express the strong emotions provoked by art. The custom illustrations that were created exclusively for the festival’s communication depict scenes of people experiencing art together – vivid, impactful compositions with vibrant colors and a positive vibe that invite the viewer to join in and celebrate a communal experience of cultural, but above all human, contact.
